I’ve always been a huge Anker fan. Their products are of great quality and I’ve never had any issues with them. So when I was buying a new Macbook Pro and wanting to set up a docking station setup for my desk I specifically looked for an Anker dock. One of the most important things to me was the ability to make my desk as minimalistic and clutter-free as possible. This dock is different from most in that it plugs directly into the 2 lightning ports without using a dongle/cord. That allows for a clean and solid connection and mount. It is a little more expensive than the others with less connections, but it had what I needed and was the cleanest. I bought the prior version because the newer version is $10 more and only has a lightning audio output which would only be useful for corded Apple earbuds I believe. I didn’t need that. It also has the ability to have power pass through which allows you to plug your charger into one of the USB-C ports and when you dock it instantly starts charging. Here’s what I have plugged into mine:- HP monitor in HDMI (had extra laying around)- Logitech webcam into one USB- Anker 60W charger- Pebble USB-C speakers (these are awesome and use the USB-C for both power AND audio output eliminating the need for another 3.5mm aux cord. This is crucial because it allows you to dock the laptop and have everything functional with the single dock rather than have to plug an extra cord in as well)I also have an Apple Magic Mouse and Magic Keyboard which are Bluetooth rather than USB wireless so they do not need a spot on the dock. This setup has worked seamlessly and is so much more ergonomic for long Zoom workdays on a larger monitor than staring at your laptop screen all day. It also gives you the flexibility of a laptop by being able to undock and take your computer anywhere. It really is the best of both worlds. Great work by Anker yet again!

Laptops have died from cheap USB C hubs. I wouldn’t risk plugging in that cheap stuff in my laptop. This one has a trusted brand and a premium feel to it. Feels as if it was made from Apple. The metal feels really nice but it would be better if my laptop was Space Grey. All ports work and I stress tested it with all ports occupied at the same time and it does run a little warm but nothing crazy. Probably my favorite port is the HDMI port since I am able to plug it in my TV to stream movies. And I can watch content I have saved on my external drive, while charging it all at the same time with ports to spare. The cherry on the top is that it has this nice little bag to keep it from getting scratched when put in a bag with your other stuff. I am surprised this doesn’t have very many reviews as it is well worth the premium price you pay for it.

Since I replaced my previous Mac Book Pro with the MacBook Pro (13-inch, 2019, Two Thunderbolt 3 ports. I tried to find exactly this USB-C hub with NO DONGLE. I fond a good one from Belkin, who are always reliable, but it still had the dongle and was always falling off the table, even with Velcro attached. This ANKER hub sticks perfectly into the two existing USB-C hubs on the left side of the laptop, with no cable or adapter. Fits snugly, looks clean, and still pops out easily for travel. I have had a number of various adapters, cables and hubs from Anker and have been completely satisfied, so I have confidence this will last as long as I need. Even powers 3 WD Element portable hard drives I use for Time Machine backups with no problem. But if you do go the Mac Book Pro route, do yourself a favor and get the one with four ports. The more ports the better, than you can get TWO of these hubs!

I had purchased another hub to money save, but found out it didn’t have enough power for my Time Machine backup. Purchased this and no problem whatsoever. Run backups and charge my Mac at the same time. Also have used the card reader to read the SD card from my camera. Also like that it attaches to my Mac without dangling. Had read other reviews that this was somewhat thicker than the Mac. If I run my finger between the keyboard and hub I do notice a slight difference; however, there is absolutely no problem shutting my MacBook. Once again Anker has come through with a quality product.

I spend few hours looking, and came to a conclusion that if you have a nice well made MacBook Pro M1 with a touch bar like I do. You want something nice that works. It doesn’t say on the instructions, but when charging the laptop with it’s original cable (100W) USB C charging hub port, you are able to charge another device on the USB C at a lower rate, I am thinking about 15W, because it charges my tablet slowly that uses 30W. The other 2 USB 3.0 (Blue) states on the instructions that are not charging ports, but it charges my watch, so it works for me, what can I say. I like it!

I just purchased a “Late 2019″ 16” Macbook Pro and of course, you need a Thunderbolt adapter if you want to do anything besides plug it in. I actually ordered the Macbook Pro from B&H Photo and purchased a more expensive adapter from them. Their adapter was fine, but I did not like the layout. I do photography, so I am almost daily using the memory card slot. The slot in the first one was in the middle of the adapter and very awkward to get to. This layout is perfect, the adapter fits snuggly and memory cards are easy to get to and glide in and out easily. So if you do photography, I would recommend this one because of the layout and the quality of the product.Because it is technology, I did go ahead and purchase the 4-year Asurion Protection Plan.

Updated – received a new unit from Anker.. The new unit fully loaded heats up from ambient to around 95 degrees which is much lower than the prior unit. I ran a test using multiple usb drives, charging and playing a video on a hdtv to see it push as much as possible through the device. I give it 5 stars because some heat is normal even with a standard usb drive.——- original review below —I really appreciated the design and connection to the dual ports on the MacBook Air – I am planning to return this product because in the long run the heat is hot to the touch on the device and then that is transferring now to my laptop frame due to the connection design.I have an Kingston Nucleum that was more for a stay at home connection – this also gets hot but the cabling makes it so it doesn’t transfer to the laptop. I haven’t read any reviews around this which surprised me to see and probably why Apple opted to remove these components in the first place and provide more cooling to the CPUs / GPUs.Good Luck – don’t burn up your laptop prematurely for this adapter. Maybe mine is defective but my guess is that is normal from the Kingston similar product and granted it may not impact my laptop today or within the 90 days of warranty but by next year I expect that I will be having issues with the speaker, USB-C components bolted directly next to this 150 degree 7 in 1 hottie.

I recently added a 16″ MacBook Pro to the family and with the extra size/weight wanted to slim down on carrying adapters. I also have a 13″ MacBook Pro (2018) and wanted something that would work for both of these without any shortfalls. The Anker delivers and works flawlessly on both of my MacBooks.Charging – It offers full rate charging on either unit and so far – hasn’t gotten all that warm in the process. I expected a bake fest and me returning it, so was surprised there.Plugs/Ports – I skipped the Hyper-hub craze as I just never liked the fit into my MacBooks. So this is the first dual-port type device I have used on my Mac’s, but it fits very well and doesn’t feel like anything needs to be forced to work. Likewise on the receiving side, the card slots are friendly and you won’t lose your cards, but it still holds them well. The USB-C ports respond well and have worked with all charger cables and dongles that I have. The USB-A’s are classic Anker quality.Thinking about this more…I think I actually like plugging and unplugging things in this. There are some brands (cough: UNI) that I wonder if “this is the time” when it breaks on me or keeps my cable end. So far so good on the Anker.Peripherals and what works – I have only used portables on it a few times so I do not have much testing with NVME there yet, but SSD is just fine and works as normal.Only (1) port of this has Displayport active on it (the charge port). So if you are plugging in two screens to one side of the MacBook – that will need to change. At the same time, if you can convert one of those to HDMI you can connect the HDMI and then Displayport (via USB-C) over the charge port.In addition to fitting the ports well I should also mention – on the 13″ MacBook Pro and Air this should lie mostly flush with the work surface you are on and the laptop edge. On the 16″ MacBook Pro it does have a little gap under it due to the height of that unit. But it still does not protrude past the top edge and won’t bug you if you brush your hand over it.TL;DR:At the time of this review I am about a week in. and have removed all the “docks” from my office and home so I can give this a decent test.At 60$ it is more expensive than other options, but performs very well for my needs.Cons: price I guess. I wouldn’t mind a GigE Ethernet port on it at the same price point of 60$, or wait for it on sale if you don’t care about the port. Big ANKER on the top of It sort of annoying, if I am picking nits.Pros: Quality interface, known brand, works well on multiple years of MacBook with no weirdness or driver problems. Compatible with latest models and software. Color matches the Apple Space Gray acceptably.I hope you found this review helpful, if not – leave a comment and let me know how we can change that! Thanks for reading my review,Chris

Well, they asked what’s most important to know.Love this hub. I see lots of complaints about the lack of ports on recent MacBooks, find them tiresome: it’s a Mac, bro, of course it’s a couple years ahead. All the same, until the flock comes honking, it is GREAT to have a simple, well-designed unit like this Anker hub, which duplicates my two usb-c ports, and adds two usb 3s, two card micro card slots, and an hdmi port.My Anker rides my Mac all the time, no problems, no concerns.Only put four stars on material bc it’s not aluminum like my Mac, the Anker appears to be very well made.Cons: sometimes can Not resist the w

I purchased 2 different brand hubs and tested them and the results are the same, the only issue is the weight of the products as the Purgo brand weighs less than the Anker brand as I believe the components inside is better quality, just my guess.I purchased this Used-like new so out from Amazon/AnkerDirect was $38.99. I thought I give it a try and if all fails I just return it but during the short time of testing this, all usb ports works using a portable ssd drive to an m.2 nvme drive to a thumb drive, card reader is perfect and charging the MacBook Air M1 through the hub with no issues. I also tested the hdmi to my 50″ LG TV using mirror mode or as an extended screen and it looks great. I can say that this will get warm to the touch but all usb type hubs do. The main reason for this review is that this does work on the Air M1 macOS Monterey and purchasing a used product is okay to save you some cash for other things on Amazon.
